Out of the bottle, off to Disney

Post Birthday blog, aka the unbirthday

Hey guys,

my blogging is not very regular, I know, but I do blog. Still I have no clue if I’m just writing this for myself or if anybody actually reads this.

I can’t even start by writing “the last days have been very eventful” because every second here is crazy.

I’ll start with 05/17, the day before my birthday. Firstly I must admit to actually liking my work, I am very aware that it’s not rocket science, I never expected it to be, but I really do enjoy talking to people and knowing that I actually might have made a tiny difference in their lives. I didn’t have that at McDonald’s at all.

Well late in the evening I had a beautiful young couple from the southern states buying two steins, I was my usual overly happy self, wrapping everything very safely for them. The man seemed very impressed, so he asked if he could tip me, alas I had to tell him, that that wasn’t possible, but that if I got a manager for him, they could fill out something small for me.

So that’s the story about my very first great service fanatic card. I was so thrilled, two of my colleagues gave me a huge hug, which was so lovely =)

Definitely people are getting used to us now, they are being really friendly and we have fun with each other at work now. I’m still wearing my earning my ears and I will wear it until I manage to close my till without becoming befuddled. Numbers and counting was never my strong point and as I give 250% to each and every guest, I am kinda tired by the time we close shop. Really I wish I were good at it, because I think it’s kinda calming to just count coins and things and not having to worry about anything for an hour.

This is the first job were I’m not counting how many hours are left or minutes, because it’s not one order, then the next, then the next, it’s more diverse than that.

Already I’m thinking about doing the program again after Uni. I will try for food or maybe even guest relations, but I will wait until I’ve been here for a while longer and then I’ll think about it again.

Ok, so here’s the story behind the title: Yesterday was my birthday. At home everybody knows it’s your birthday, here nobody really does. My German roomie knew it was and she was so brilliant, she got me the most beautiful little charm for my bracelet and she made a lovely lovely brunch this morning, my other two roomies never knew it was my birthday and so did most of my fellow cast members.

Still it was a great birthday, my parents gave me the beautiful pretzel charm for my bracelet that I just couldn’t afford at home and my 4 best friends from home, who are still like a wall to lean on, forked together for a trip to the set of the Vampire Diaries in Georgia.

Matti called at exactly midnight of the 18th just to congratulate me =).

Really, I have some really cool friends here already. A bunch of them is coming round this evening, I’m baking choco-banana cake with ice cream, so I’ll have to go to Publix quickly to get some stuff for it.

So yeah, that’s the recap of my birthday.

Have a magical day!

Social Security

It took me five tries to actually spell Security correct there….

So, I’ve been here for round about two and a half weeks now and I hate it

I’m kidding!!!

I love this place, seriously, although today, in comparison, I’m in a bad mood, because they made us get up at 5 am after 4 hours sleep and go to get Social Security and then I have to work later, but I’m actually still a happy bunny.

For my birthday tomorrow I’m keeping things small, I can’t manage to get my friends together until like Saturday evening, so they are all coming round at tenish for cake.

If you are coming out soon or are applying, please remember the following:

Although both are located in Florida, you will be working for Disney in food and beverages, attractions or Merchandise if you are an International, you will however, not be working for NASA, work can be very brainnumbing, but after McD’s, I find this very refreshing.

Also please remember that we have to wear costumes, if your need to express yourself through your clothes is so big, that you have a problem with costumes, please reconsider. Yes, you will also be required to leave behind your private worries and look happy on the job, but that is required in almost any job.

I am a very strong believer in life’s what you make it, I’ve said this before and this job is what you make it, use all the freedom that you get on the job to change someones day.

Imagine you save up for a year to take your beautiful daughter to Disney World, only to encounter people that don’t really give a damn.

While hearing weird things on the job ( I personally haven’t heard anything so weird yet that I can post it here, when I hear something hilarious, you shall hear about it!), most people are very interested and interesting, understanding about me still learning and very friendly.

Every now and then we have maps of Germany and when they say “my mum came from Germany” and I ask “where from?” they often say “Oh I don’t remember, but it was Frankfurt, Munich or Berlin”, those are the moments when you realize that these people don’t have a clue.

Casting events are the greatest, I might have trouble getting to them now, because I usually close, but that’s alright, I’ll get to them later in the year or when I’m lucky.

The latest one we went to was the Starlit Splash, free ice cream, free t-shirt, pirates, music, free food, it was a great night.

I’ve also been to the Florida Mall to get my phone, I could have shopped till I dropped, but I refrained from doing so, although there was one handbag that sneaked home with me (after being bought of course).

I’ve been to Hollywood Studios for a day and that was awesome! I went with a German and a Canadian friend and we had a blast, the American Idol Experience is much more fun to watch than I had anticipated! Everything was just brilliant! We met Pooh Bear and saw Fantasmickey from afar.

Also before work the day before yesterday a couple of friends and I went to Epcot and took in Flower and Garden, which is so magical! Especially the butterfly tent!

Also Club Cool is as cool as ever, the perfect place to get a refreshment, although the Club Cool soda just seems to be more sticky than regular soda somehow.

Well, this is getting kinda long and I’m kinda tired so I’m not sure how interesting this actually is, if you guys have any questions, feedback or would like me to write about something else, please let me know. I don’t really know if anyone reads this anyway!!!

Have a magical day!

Gini

Universal Studios

today was a really really awesome day.

As the title suggests, we headed over to Universal Studios, as we don’t have our main pass until to tomorrow for Disney but we had the day off.

So a bunch of us went together at around noon and we really didn’t have to wait to long to buy our tickets.

We all managed to get the florida residence discount, which was really neat, as saving money is always something to be happy about here.

First thing you gotta know is that roller  coaster aren’t my thing. I’m a gentle ride kinda girl, for me Winnie the pooh is an adrenalin rush.

Also I’m happy to like wait in line with guys going on roller coasters, exit at the last moment and then watch the ride or go in shops.

My friends weren’t having that.

Actually I’ll just give you a step by step description of all the rides we went on

The lost world, Poseidon’s adventure:

This isn’t actually a ride, this is a walk through thing, so it was fine. It has a lot of fire and water and little scary bits, it was really awesome and the first ride kinda thingey we did in Florida. Yay!!!!

Next thing we went on was….. the Dragon Challenge: The guys kinda persuaded me, what I thought it was just didn’t look to bad.

Well, I would soon find out that it was the one were you choose bad or worse. What I wanted to do was back out, but I didn’t, so, yeah, I had the most terrifying 3 minutes of my life.

On the whole I must say, I’m glad I did it, I really faced one of my fears.

After that it was the forbidden journey: It was extremely awesome, except for the ride :D. Everyone loved the ride, if you’re a coaster junkey you’ll adore it, I was scared out of my wits. There were parts where my eyes just weren’t open. So yeah, the build up is incredible, but it just frightened me to death.

Next we headed to Jurassic park and I had done two coasters already. It was enough, so I let the others go on their own. After coming out they told me I had to go :D, so I obeyed and that was the third thing I did that, for me, was scary.

The next ride I skipped, it was a freakishly scary water ride. So yeah, I filmed the guys, it was great watching!!!

The next thing was so awesome, we went on Popeye’s floating something or other…. twice: It was SOO wet, like really really wet. We were drenched after but we had so so so much fun, it was totally awesome!!!! We all had just so much fun on it.

The last ride for today was Spiderman. This ride is one of the most awesome things I have ever done. You are sitting in a verhicle and you wear 3D glasses and you feel like you’re hurtling towards the ground or flying, while you never actually leave the ground. Also Spidy is just awesome :D.

So yeah, that was our Universal day and it was just fantastic!!!

After that we headed to Walmart, buying a few needed things.

Girls, if you have space in your baggage, bring make up wipes! You get 30 here for 5$, it’s expensive!!!!

That about sums up the day, it was really wicked.

Tomorrow is traditions and after we are definitely heading into the parks and it will be… you guessed it… awesome!!!

Love you loads guys xxx

Welcome to the magic

This is my first post after arriving in Disney.

I’ve been here since May second, 2 am. Already I love this place. My apartment’s great, I live with 3 other people and it’s going really harmonious.

So far we’ve had tons and tons of welcome sessions, paperwork stuff and warnings about what not to do.

Still, Disney even makes that entertaining.

On our first evening Disney had organized a Mexican party for Cinco de Mayo and it was so awesome!

The DJ was really good, there were Pluto, Goofy, the three caballeros and of course Mickey and Minnie. There was free food and lots of dancing and getting to know new people.

This place is even bigger than I had imagined it for six years. Walmart is also sooo big. People told me you need an hour’s drive to get there, but that really isn’t true. One way is twenty minutes tops, so this isn’t something you need to waste an off day on.

Today is an off day and we’re planning on going to Universal Studios, we actually have quite a big group by now!

Then tomorrow is traditions, which means getting up kinda early, but we definitely need to hit Walmart again this evening, because of forgotten things.

Money is going well, you just have to careful about how you spend it. Never forget you are only one person, you don’t want things to rot away in the fringe, it’s a waste of resources, a waste of money and a waste of space in the fridge.

I’ve put up pictures on my cork board and I’ve fully unpacked, so things are starting to feel homey.

Well, that’s the news from the most magical place on earth!

TTYL!
